MLB’s Carlos Asuaje: ‘With Esports and Gaming, It’s Kind of the Wild Wild West’

Carlos Asuaje is a professional athlete in one sport (baseball) and an owner in another (esports).   The 28-year-old middle infielder, who is currently in the Chicago Cubs’ system, was born in Venezuela but moved to the U. S. with his family when he was two. Asuaje starred at Nova Southeastern University before the Boston Red Sox selected him in the 11th round of the 2013 MLB draft. He raced through the lower levels of the minors and earned a spot in the prestigious Arizona Fall League for top prospects at the end of the 2015 season—and then was traded to the San Diego Padres as part of a package deal for All-Star closer Craig Kimbrel.
