NBA to trade Spalding balls for Wilson from 2021/22 season

Getty ImagesThe National Basketball Association (NBA) will use game balls provided by US sports equipment manufacturer Wilson Sporting Goods from the 2021/22 season. The multi-year, global partnership will end the NBA’s longstanding association with Spalding, another US company, which has been the league’s official game ball since 1983. The deal also covers the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), the NBA G League development competition, the NBA 2K League esports tournament and the Basketball Africa League (BAL), the NBA’s regional joint venture with global body Fiba. NBA and Microsoft developing personalised broadcast OTT platformThe WNBA is the only property included in the agreement that will wait until 2022 before using game balls made by Wilson. Wilson previously made basketballs for the NBA between 1946 and 1983 before being replaced by Spalding. The precise length and financial terms of the new deal were not made public.
