Report: Serie A clubs give green light for €2.2bn CVC Capital talks

Getty ImagesSerie A, Italian soccer’s top-flight, has entered exclusive talks with private equity firm CVC Capital over a potential €2. 2 billion (US$2. 38 billion) investment, according to the Reuters news agency. Club representatives reportedly discussed CVC’s proposal to buy into the organising body’s broadcast rights operation during a teleconference held on 13th May, giving Serie A executives clearance to proceed with negotiations for a period of up to six weeks. The update comes after initial reports that CVC was interested in acquiring a 20 per cent stake in the league, for which the firm would take on a role in the league’s TV rights sales. CVC is apparently seeking a ten-year contract with Serie A from the 2021/22 season, a venture which it values at €11 billion (US$11.
