Getty ImagesSky Italia, Italy’s largest pay-television broadcaster, has teamed up with Australian company Linius Technologies to trial personalised channels for viewers. The move will see Sky Italia use Linius’ services to develop a personalised channels proof-of-concept which the broadcaster will test on selected subscribers. The trial will initially focus on Sky Italia’s soccer coverage of Serie A, Italy’s top flight, as well as England’s Premier League and the Uefa Champions League, Europe's premier club competition. The aim of the trial is to test user engagement and reaction to personalised TV channels, as well as to facilitate commercial modelling going forward and provide insights into future product design. The deal is a one-off test that will see Sky Italia pay Linus US$39,250, which will give the broadcaster a personalised channel builder, video virtualisation and enhancement, as well as trial support.
