Getty ImagesThe Munich 2022 European Championships will feature four new sports but swimming and golf have both been dropped for the second edition of the quadrennial event. Beach volleyball, canoe sprint, sport climbing and table tennis will join athletics, cycling, gymnastics, rowing and triathlon on the programme for the event, which is due to take place between 11th and 21st August 2022. The four new additions come after the Munich City council approved the event’s expansion to nine sports - up from the original seven that featured at the inaugural edition in Glasgow and Berlin in 2018 - back in April. Canoe sprint’s inclusion was first reported last month, and organisers have now reached agreements with the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV), International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) and the European Table Tennis Union (ETTU). No new infrastructure will be built for the championships, which will be held primarily at the Munich Olympic Park, host of the 1972 Olympic Games.
